What’s the best way to build explosive speed for sports?

What’s the best way to build explosive speed for sports like football or basketball? I feel strong but slow. I can lift heavy, but I’m not as quick off the line as I need to be. I see guys who aren’t as big as me but can absolutely smoke me in sprints. How do I fix that?

Plyometrics and sprint work should be a priority. Box jumps, sled sprints, and agility drills will help big time. Lifting heavy is great, but you need to train your body to move fast, not just be strong.

focus on power cleans and snatches if you’re comfortable with Olympic lifts. they translate really well to explosive speed. you need to train your nervous system to fire quickly, not just build big muscles.

You have to train your Fast Twitch Muscles. Everything said above will help, but bigger legs will make you run faster also.
