first powerlifting meet in three months

I’ve got my first powerlifting meet in three months, and I’m not sure how to taper leading up to it. Do I keep training heavy right up to the meet, or should I start backing off? I want to be at my absolute strongest on meet day, but I also don’t want to lose strength by cutting back too early. What’s the ideal approach?

Nope, you’ll want to gradually decrease volume while keeping some heavy singles in the last few weeks. Give your body time to recover so you can peak properly. You don’t want to be fatigued on meet day.

A proper deload before meet day is key. Last heavy lifts should be at least a week out to ensure peak performance. Also, make sure you’re practicing commands so you don’t bomb a lift just because you weren’t prepared for the judging standards.

Practice your commands and technique more than anything in those final weeks. The last thing you want is to miss a lift over a technicality. And don’t stress too much—meet day adrenaline is real, and you’ll likely feel stronger than you think.
